Sail Away
My husband and I are flying from the Northeast, USA to Guatemala City to spend the holidays with our daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons. The older will be 4 years old on December 22, so we will have a birthday party too. His brother is just 19 months old. We will drive to lake Atitlan for Christmas. Santa will ride on a fire truck, and there will be fireworks for days.

They would Stone us if the law would allow
by ElderEtta inseveral years ago unless i was dreaming i read a watchtower quotation that effectively said that they would execute us as disfellowshipped individuals if the law would allow.. was i dreaming?.

Actually, I vaguely recall something in writing just a few years ago. It may have been in an article about "mentally-diseased apostates".
The you, as a parent, would have to throw the first stone was still spouted by the elders the year I walked away in 2011.

The Hypocrisy Of Jehovah’s Witnesses
by minimus incelebrating holidays is wrong if you are a witness.
but almost every jw that i know of has turkey on thanksgiving day.
they say , every day is a day of thanksgiving.

True confession-- I once cooked a Thanksgiving meal in the wee hours of the morning and served a Thanksgiving breakfast for two other pioneer couples at 7 am so we could meet up for service at 9 that morning. Sheer lunacy!

The photo is of my shi tzu poodle named Emma at the helm. She won third-place honorable mention in a salty dog photo contest by Soundings magazine. She has been sailing with us for over 10 years now.
One of my lightbulb moments was during our yearly anniversary sail charter. I wondered what my life would be like living in shorts and bare feet with the wind in my hair without meetings, dresses, heels, magazines, books or a Bible. I sailed away from the org in 2011. I still don't own a dress. Just sayin!

Hidden Doctrines
by jhine in" religions do not volunteer their most offensive doctrines to newcomers ".
the above sentence was posted on another thread as part of a quote taken from jwfacts .
l commented that this was a sweeping generalisation of the kind often made about all religions .

Vanderhoven7, Buddha supposedly ditched his wife and children and went in search of the Truth, which wasnt a good thing to do. Buddhists hate to talk about this, In my experience.
^^This^^
I am not a Buddhist, as I will never subject myself to a hierarchical, misogynistic belief system again, but I have studied Buddhism. I think the precepts that Buddhists follow and secular Buddhist psychology have value, but Buddhism is marred by the same issues as any other insular society-- abuse of power and sexual abuse, not necessarily rampant, but it is there. The Dalai Lama is complicit in the coverup, IMO.

This is literally how my father-in-law became a lifelong JW. It was his father's idea for him to join the JWs to avoid being drafted into the US Army to serve in the Korean war. His plan was for his son to feign interest and become a minister, but it backfired, and he became a believer.
My husband only found this out recently when he reconnected with his only living relative, a non-JW who knew the family history. At least the insanity stops with our generation. Our children and grandchildren are free.

Thanks, Randy. I have complex PTSD, so I am easily triggered by listening to a speaker reference the Bible. I didn't find that to be the case with your sermon.
